Charter School Accreditation Program
Charter schools have the potential to renew confidence in K-12 public education. They already boast some early successes, due in large part to offering rigorous academics to students regardless of background. However, their credibility must rest on actual performance and accountability. Charter schools must be able to prove to various audiences their viability as an organization with strong infrastructure and their stability as an institution of high quality education for those who attend.
To help identify exemplary charter schools, AALE has developed an independent charter school accreditation program. As an external evaluator with high standards, AALE accomplishes two important goals:
- strengthening the study of liberal arts from the early years through the teens; and
- providing a reliable measure of institutional health to parents, students, administrators, political representatives, foundations, and the general public.
AALE's rigorous standards include assessing a school's mission, curriculum, teacher quality and financial management of the school. The process includes an in-depth self-study in which results in a comprehensive document that addresses each of the standards of AALE accreditation.
Any questions you may have about accreditation and the Academy's standards should be answered by looking through the Academy's documents and publications. However, if you have further questions or would like to set up a phone consultation with Academy staff, please contact us at aalecharters@aale.org or 202/452-8611.
